Wayward Flights of Fancy

I’m sorry, random little kid, but I don’t support the Boy Scouts of America

So, no, I would not like to buy any popcorn from you.  I know you’re probably too young to understand it, but your organization excludes people based on religious beliefs and sexual orientation and as of recently has basically become an extension of the LDS (Mormon) Church.

If you want, you can join a group like Scouting for All (http://www.scoutingforall.org/) and I would be happy to buy some junk from you. :)

I was a girlscout from 1st-8th grade. I never once knew that they would remove someone of a different religious belief or sexual orientation other than straight. I’m glad I’m out of it now… Being non-Christian and bisexual, I don’t think I fit in quite well…

The girl scouts actually don’t have the same policy, at least not on the national level.  Individual troops may be homophobic simply because of who’s running them.  A lesbian friend of mine works for Girl Scouts USA and recently helped a young transgirl find an accepting troop.  They’re definitely a more GLBT friendly organisation than the Boy Scouts.

Do the Girl Scouts have the same homophobic policy as the Boy Scouts? I’ve never been clear on that.
